Why Scale Builds Up in Dubai Pipes
Hard water carries dissolved minerals, and over time those minerals deposit on surfaces as scale, the same chalky build-up you see on a kettle or a tap. Inside drainage and water pipes, especially older metal ones, that scale accumulates on the wall and gradually narrows the bore. In Dubai's hard-water conditions it is a slow but steady process, and it is a common underlying reason drains block more often as a building ages.

How scale affects your pipes
As scale builds up on the inside of a pipe, it narrows the channel water flows through, so the drain carries less and clogs more easily. The rough, scaled surface also catches grease and debris that a smooth pipe would pass. The effect is gradual, so drains tend to slow over months and years rather than block suddenly, which is a clue that scale, not a one-off clog, is the cause.
How to tell scale is the problem
Scale is likely when drains have slowed gradually over time rather than blocking suddenly, when blockages have become more frequent as the building has aged, and in older properties with original metal pipework. A camera survey confirms it, showing the narrowed, encrusted pipe wall rather than a soft blockage sitting in a clear pipe.

How scale is removed
Scale bonds to the pipe wall and will not shift with a plunger or a basic clear. It is removed by descaling, mechanically or with controlled high-pressure jetting that scours the deposit off the wall and restores the pipe's full diameter. Once the bore is restored, the drain carries water properly again and blocks far less often.
Keeping scale under control
You cannot change Dubai's water hardness, but you can manage its effect. Periodic cleaning stops scale combining with grease into frequent blockages, and in older buildings a descale restores pipes that have narrowed over years. Catching it before the pipe is heavily encrusted keeps the job simpler and the drains reliable.
